To Ensure the Reliability of The Supply of Gas for Power Plants, PLN EPI Evaluates Gas Imports After Obtaining a Trading Permit

One of PT PLN's subholdings, PT PLN Energi Primer Indonesia (PLN EPI), has finally spoken out in support of the company's goal of becoming one of the commercial organizations that can trade natural gas.

One of the key goals of PLN EPI's initiative to gain a commercial license, according to key Director of PLN EPI Iwan Agung Firstantara, is to secure supply needs for power plants.

Iwan told me when we met at the PLN headquarters a few days ago that "right now the focus is on PLN generators."

He claimed that although there has been enough gas supply up until this point, gas demand is expected to increase.

"The gas supply has been adequate up to this point, and we anticipate that demand will be met in the future. We currently solely provide internal supplies, and gas trade has been suggested, said Iwan.

In addition to domestic sources, there are other options for meeting gas demand, one of which is to source gas from outside. Iwan answered, "We'll see (about imports).

He made sure that PLN EPI will continue to conduct business as usual even after receiving a commercial permission. Because we still conduct business with consumers during the primary energy process, Iwan explained, "even though we are an aggregator, we still conduct business, which is why we are still trying to get a trading license."

Rakhmad Dewanto, Director of Gas and Fuel at PLN EPI, stressed that securing a reliable supply of gas from domestic sources is PLN EPI's top priority. If the import option has a government-issued commercial permission, it is not actually prohibited. Rakhmad recently said to Dunia Energi, "From what I understand, commercial business firms can apply for LNG imports.

Gas is a significant component of the electricity production process. According to Rakhmad, PLN EPI presently oversees PT PLN's gas and LNG contracts. (Persero). According to plans, all of the PLN power plants will require about 1,290 BBTUD of gas or LNG in 2023, according to Rakhmad.
